The file ‘/path/file.exe’ is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.
While re-installing Spotify on my Desktop I came across this error while trying to run the .exe through wine (shown above) and here’s a really simple way of fixing it:
- Right click the .exe
- Properties
- Under the Permssions tab make sure “Allow executing file as program” is checked
- Click Close and you should be able to now run it through wine..

ta!
thank you so fucking much
But mine only say Read and Write ?
What says Read and Write, all you have to do is check the box marked executable..?
mine executable box was checked but i still have the same error msg come up after and still wont let me run the programme
checking “Allow executing file as program” did not work for me too..
please post if you have other solutions
Just to check, you do have Wine installed?
what sort of dumb ass response is that alex? ^ ^ ^

thanks very very very very much
now i can run program on my office computer
remember,.. when you tick the box, your .exe file is not in ntfs or fat hdd format. unless this one will back empty again. you need to move the .exe file to linux system file, such as ext3 or ext4..
Thanks for the tip!
i do that but it just un ticks its self
oh just read neilhoja’s comment
